It's not every day that a public parking garage is built beneath a church and small park. But that's happening now at the eglise in our neighbourhood. The peaceful scene pictured, where church-goers worship and children play in the park, has temporarily vanished.
The normally expansive view on Avenue Charles de Gaulle is disrupted on three sides by massive machinery and equipment, while the noise level borders on deafening. The sidewalks are blocked and the park is closed.
How long the underground parking structure's construction will take remains a mystery. As two schools are located directly across the street, even the briefest of construction periods -----for which French builders are not known----- will result in massive traffic jams. C'est la vie!

When I visited Europe ten years ago, I was amazed by the restorations rather than constructions that were going on. And now I "see" the construction of underground parking. What a marvelous way to preserve what is old but live in the new.

It is amazing how an old city can constantly adapt and grow, it is incredible really!

Oh, I'm glad that you have this picture--I don't even want to imagine it "under construction!"
This photo is exquisite. Just a lovely place.
