An acrylic on canvas painting by Land Eagle of the Taos Pueblo was used as a back cover image for the European release of James Wilson's book The Earth Shall Weep, a history of Native Americans. The original painting is part of my collection of Southwest Art.
Land Eagle draws his inspiration from his heritage. He refers to the Taos Pueblo dwellers as "a people whose lives were dependant on the rituals they practiced: the prayers for life, the balance of respecting nature, the ceremonies to invoke the rains." Using bold swaths of red, yellow and black, the Taos, New Mexico-based artist captures the essence and beauty of a Pueblo sunset.
