Inspired by Jessie and by Jo Packham's book Where Women Create here are photos of my little "office" corner, where I write. As I use a laptop, I take it to the sofa, to the balcony or across the street to the park when I can't stand another minute sitting in that chair! My big task this week is to find and buy a comfy Herman Miller ergonomic chair.
As you can see, my "office" is a tightly-compacted space in our bijoux Paris apartment. The desk and red bookcase came from Santa Fe. The mercantile cabinets are 19th-century French and hold office and computer supplies. The mixed media and the watercolour over the desk are by artists in Taos and Santa Fe. The painting at left was a Christmas gift painted by my daughter.
Another large "open" bookcase behind my chair holds a collection of American art pottery and books. It serves to divide the space from the salon or living room.
Where do you create?

Love that space ...

This is a beautiful space, the perfect place to be creative. I love wireless internet too, it's so nice to be able to write in the living room or read blogs while curled up in bed or bring the laptop to the kitchen if I'm looking up recipes online

Thank you for letting us peek behind the screen :>)
I love the book, 'Where Women Create,' it inspires my daydreams. Now I can add this visual of your lovely writing space when imagineering my future 'Room of my own!'
Oh, the drawers - lots & lots of drawers!

I loved seeing where you work. Everyone needs a space of their own. I am just now trying to carve out my space in my home. It is more difficult to do with children, a hisband, and a small house. But I am grateful I have a desk (and a home! and a husband and children too!:))

this is wonderful; love those little cabinets... how do you remember what is in each little drawer?

I love the mercantile cabinets. I'm always afraid to hang things like this--afraid it will fall. I love the muted color of it. I, personally, spread out whereever I can. My desk is always a mess, so it usually is the kitchen table I end up on when I'm doing anything "artsy." The sunlight there is the best. Oh, and your Herman Miller chair-to-be, how exciting! I've always wanted one too but never want to pay for it! You will float effortlessly when you write!

how do you keep it so tidy?!
i don't have a creative space but i do have a wireless laptop, two HB pencils and a writing pad (it's pages are ruled on one side but plain on the back. normally i prefer using the back to avoid the rules). i suppose that's it.

Elegant, orderly, inspiring. Oh, I could write so much better things if I had a space like that!

I adore nooks & crannies...I can never FIND what I'm looking for in them...but adore them nevertheless.
And I stack my bookshelves just as you do! Some vertical, some horizontal...and some shelves are double deep. If ever I move it will be because I have run out of space for books ;-)

Oh how I love your space! It is so old world charming. (well except for the lap top, that is totally new world and I LOVE laptops)
I don't really have a space to create in this house where I live now. When we move I will have more space, but for now I create whereever I plop myself, Usually on the floor in the living room.

We truly are kindred spirits as we have the same back grounds on our computers. I love your writing space and I am sincerely jealous. My house is busting at the seems and well that doesn't leave much room for a writing space so I land where ever the labtop and wireless take me. :)

What a wonderfully warm and inspiring space you have! I am in awe of the red bookshelf so close to hand, as well as all the marvelous little drawers.
This idea to share our writing spaces is great fun.

Mercantile cabinets..I want them. The wooden shoes too and throw in your laptop! :)
An ergonomic chair I need as I'm spending more time at the PC since I began blogging!
I carry note pads with me every where and write where and whenever I get ideas or inspiration.

What a beautiful space. And it looks like a Paris apartment. I do like the drawers on the wall and the wooden shoe shapes (I almost bought one a while back to "alter" and turn into artword).
My studio space is not photographable right now! It is chaos when I;m working.

Wow, I haven't been able to decide what I like better - all the great stuff that makes up your space or the colors. I've been looking at it on and off all day. I'm leaning toward colors because no matter what the style, the colors would attract me but if the colors weren't right, style would not necessarily carry the day. A really stimulating space for the senses, Tara.

I love all your treasures. It makes it very cosy :) I'm taking notes from you and Jessie. I must find some treasures. I have a painting from Jessie, now I need to go antique shopping. Thanks for sharing your space.

Oh, how fun to see your work space! I love it, too. Mine is not so nice to look at. Lame...

That is a beautiful space you have there. I've never been one who gave much thought to interior design, but I'm beginning to realize that your "work space" really does do alot for your sense of well-being. Most of us spend so much time on the computer nowadays or in our home office that it's smart to have it be a comfortable, attractive space. Too many of us -- including myself -- have papers all over the floor and reminders tacked onto the monitor -- only making us more stressed out when we sit down to work.

Your space looks so lovely and serene. Are you always so neat or was this for the photo opp?
I tend to be a bit more "jumbled."
Posted by: ally bean | 22 May 2006 at 22:45
Oh wow--your writing space is amazing. And I love it that you move from the desk, to the balcony, to the park. I also love those merchantile cabinets! And your artwork!
Yes, there is lots to love about your little corner of the world in Paris. :)
I'm curious about the book you mentioned, "Where Women Create." I'll have to check into that one.
Happy writing!!
:)

Your office looks really great. I don't have an office-just a desk off of our living room but, if I turn my head to the left, I have a fantastic view of distant mountains and genet bushes blooming with yellow flowers.
