The canicule has dissipated somewhat, thanks to thunderstorms last night. Sadly, so far 64 people have died from the heatwave in France. The storms knocked out our broadband internet connection and cable, until about ten minutes ago. Please check back later for another post.

Hope your heat wave has broken now. Thank heavens our Califonia one is finally starting to let up. Stay cool my friend!

I just moved to England, and apparently the other day it was the hottest for England since 1911. It was only about 95 degrees, which is fine for where I'm from, but no one here is used to this kind of weather. Think about staying in the heat when the tube has no air conditioning or even ventilation. Or when the buildings, not even the movie theatres dont even have air conditioning.

Hi tara,
Everyday this past week the LA times has run a story about a heat related death here in CA. Sadly sometimes it's about people who had air but did not use it. Many more times however it was about the poor who could not make this choice. Here in CA the last time this kind of prolonged heat was experienced in 1954. Had I not fought with my mom and for her I think she would have been among them.

Sadly, homeless people exist in every big city. In Paris at least they are trying to provide shelter via the special tents for those who won't stay in physical shelters. These tents were issued specifically during the heatwave, to try to avoid people getting heatstroke.

I saw an article in our local paper about the tents the homeless in Paris are putting up everywhere. Wondering what your opinions are regarding that? Such a shame there has to be ANY homeless people. There are plenty here, in FL, but the tent idea has not caught on yet.

64?! And I thought California was bad with 41 deaths...amazing how people are dying from the heat and there's not much being said about it on the news (here). Hope it eases up over there.

I'm melting in Belgium, ashamed that I complained back in winter when it was zero celsius for so long ...

And I just read where the death count in California is 81 people, from the terrible triple digit heat there.
If one more person tries to tell me that global warming doesn't exist, I'd like to pop them one right in the nose.
