Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing war crimes. In a report released Wednesday, the human rights group said Israel deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure in Lebanon. The Israeli government has refuted Amnesty's claims.
Homes, bridges, roads and water and fuel plants were an "integral part" of Israel's strategy in the recent war, Amnesty said. The group also urged a United Nations investigation into whether both Israel and Hezbollah violated humanitarian law. For more information, read the BBC article.

It really is a sad situation all the way around and with all the foreign interference for commercial reasons\gain the pot is only being stirred that much harder.

I went off to read it and forgot to come back until now! Even if HA used civilians as human shields, it's not OK for anyone to use that as an excuse to kill 1,000 or so civilians. One of our politicians voiced what Amnesty International has said, and he had to resign in disgrace. His crime was to tell the truth, rather than keep quiet and not "offend" Israel. It makes me ill. I will never understand this special status that no other nation in the world enjoys -- no wonder Israel believes it can do whatever it wants.
God help them all. They'll need it.

Welcome back! It's nice to read your writing once again. I love that tree. I took a picture of one when I was in France once. I think I was in Tours.

Amnesty International is not the sort of organization to recklessly throw around charges without good reason. It will be interesting to see how this develops. And of course as they said in the 60's, "War is not healthy for children (read that humans) and other living things".

While the numbers speak for themselves ("About 1,000 Lebanese - most civilians - died in the conflict, while 161 Israelis, mainly soldiers, were killed." BBC)...Hezbollah must also be held accountable for using their own citizens as "human shields" and setting up strategic military centers in the heart of civilian areas. Both have the blood of far too many innocent people on their hands.
This war not only demolished the nation of Lebannon but it reaffirmed to much of the world that the United States is no longer a peace-keeping nation but in the opinion of some "more dangerous than Iran." (BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2994924.stm)

Am I crazy to believe that all war is a crime against humanity?
The reality of this life makes my heart ache. How can anyone feel any other way?
