"El conflicto iraqui se situa como principal preocupacion de los estadounidenses en los comicios" (The Iraqi conflict is the main preoccupation of the Americans in the election.)
The Spanish newspaper El Pais headline is a play on words of the James Carville-coined motto of the Clinton presidential campaign in 1992: "It's the economy, stupid." The article by Jose Calvo in Washington discusses major election issues, primarily Iraq and immigration. Calvo quotes a CNN poll saying 64 percent of Americans oppose the Iraq war. The article also quotes a magazine interview with the author of "Tempting Faith," suggesting that a former adviser to George Bush says while the Republicans publicly are supportive of right-wing religious groups, in private they consider them "ridiculous."

No one in politics left or right takes the religious people seriously. Sure, they want the vote but as soon as you pull God in above the politicos (the proper order), you lose credibility with them. I saw this guy on TV....this doesn't seem groundbreaking to me. Mr Clinton?....hmmmm.....what did his Faith Based Department look like? Yes, we have things to pick on Mr Bush about....this one is small change. No one cares about the religous right....except the religous right.

True.
I've been reading the Huffington Post almost daily. The goings-on in Washington are frightening.

I saw the author of Tempting Faith interviewed this week on tv. He has just survived a brain tumor and felt compelled to write and tell the truth about what he saw. Seemed extremely credible and once again we have yet ANOTHER big stinky piece of truth about what this administration is really like behind closed doors. I'm just so disgusted you have no idea. Praying dems can somehow take the house, congress, & senate, but so afraid of corruption next month at the polls and with these paperless machines. Holding my breath and praying!!

Tara,
I like to believe that pres. bush grew up on Edgar Burgen's knee. Too bad he never developed the smarts of his brother, Charlie McCarthy.
