In my quest for cranberries to make Nigella Lawson's cranberry-orange stuffing for the Thanksgiving turkey, on Monday I went to Le Bon Marche. My husband will be picking up the turkey from the butcher Thursday morning. The frozen turkeys so popular in the U.S. are virtually non-existent here, as fresh turkey is widely available.
Le Bon Marche's windows are filled with giant faux mushroom caps that shrink and expand in size, spices, perfumes, jewelry and clothes. The buildings shown in the photo are actually across the street, reflected in store windows. Click photos for detail.

Jewelry "snowflakes" are draped along these silvery branches, while diamonds languish in the "snow."

I went for cranberries, but found Jimmy Choo evening sandals instead. Although I wouldn't be walking in the snow wearing these beauties.

Jars of spices and pickled fruits are stuffed inside this faux pumpkin.
Pots of jam, gourmet foods and jewels are hidden among these flowers and vines (above and below).

Those pics are amazing as are the windows (and of course, the shoes!). Wow!

me out loud: "hm, that's going on my wish list. i hope jimmy choos aren't expensive."
random family member: "no duh, airhead."
me: "so THAT's why all the celebs wear 'em in magazines."
family member: "i am saddened by how long it took you to process that."

Nina, thank you! Gmail is down, so couldn't respond via e-mail but I appreciate your sweet offer. It's too much trouble for you to bother; it is hoped I'll find cranberries here today. When I was a little girl, my grandmother made sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. But haven't had that - or marshmallows - in years, although I do bake sweet potato pie. :)

Oh darling! Those Jimmy Choos are to die for!!!!!!! (do you know that he is Malaysian? ha ha my cheap claim to fame...!)
We have fresh cranberries here but that wouldn't survive post shipment to France don't you think? I could send it over...but...what do you think?
My first ever Thanksgiving was in London, with a family of an American friend of mine who flew from Boston to visit her in London. I never ate marshmallows with Turkey ever in my life and it was the only time I did.
I love teh atmosphere of Thanksgiving. Very Christmassy ...
Kisses and Happy Thanksgiving!

My dear sweet girl,
Exquisite photos. So, your lovely husband will be picking up the turkey tomorrow? Mine got one today at Costco (did you shop Costco while still here in the States??) Not necessarily a true bargain, but great one-stop shopping!!
Much peace, love and a hug,
JP

What a fantasy land! Amazingly artistic window displays - but, then of course, it's Paris!
Have a wonderful "American in Paris" holiday :)

Enchanting! So wish I were there!! Tell David we always get a fresh turkey here, too--in fact, it's one of the ones I drew this summer! Have a lovely feast, dear hearts, both.

I didn't actually buy those gorgeous Jimmy Choos, much as I'd have liked to - my daughter's winter term college tuition is due! :)

OH MY GOD! look at those windows - a truly magickal faery land Christmas - I would not be able to pull myself away.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving - it is not celebrated here in Australia.

What a fairyland! I love that the mushrooms shrink and grow, and if only diamonds fell like snowflakes...well, on second thought, maybe not - that would be a lot closer to hail, and they'd probably lose a lot of their appeal - Ouch! Darn diamonds falling on my head! *_*
The Jimmy Choo's are gorgeous! Maybe not as healthy as cranberries, but a lot more fun!
Have a happy Thanksgiving, Tara -
