My daughter Jordana Shalhoub pictured in London on her 22nd birthday.
Snapping a photo of Jordana early this morning as she headed towards the departure gate at Aeroport Charles de Gaulle. Bonne annee! Au revoir!
Last passport check before the departure gates. Note the red balloon accompanying the child next to Jordana.
The usual departure screens provide flight information and departure gates - Jordana's flight was to Newark, then Savannah - all being well, home in time to dress up for a New Year's Eve party.

An electronic board appealing for aid for Darfur. Since 2003, nearly half a million people have been affected by one of the world's worst humanitarian conflicts. More than 232,000 Darfurians have been displaced from their homes in Western Sudan, along with 90,000 Chadians and 48,000 from the Central African Republic. More than 200,000 people were slaughtered by the Janjaweed Arab militia allied with the Islamist government in Khartoum. The government has rebuffed international envoys and ruled out a United Nations-led peacekeeping force. Earlier this month the UN evacuted more than 70 aid workers from the biggest refugee camp in Darfur. In the UN Security Council, Russia and China have blocked imposing sanctions against their ally Sudan.

Tara, I was just scrolling back, I can't believe how many posts I've been missing! Jordana is so beautiful, she looks so full of life and joy (just like Mom!). Hugs to you, as I know you're missing her so much already. Savannah for the New Year sounds delightful though! xo

Great photos. I enjoy seeing how other places look. It gives me insight into what others think is normal and everyday.
And your daughter is just lovely. But you knew that, of course!

Your daughter is luminous. And as a human rights worker, I thank you for posting on Darfur.

Dear Tara,
From one mother to another, I know you must have wanted to have even more precious time with her. What a radiant girl she is, so lovely. I'm so happy that you had her in your arms for her birthday and Christmas - what a joy!
Bonne Annee, chere amie.
p.s. Darfur is so unbelievably tragic and it feels like the world *could* be doing something ... definitely a perverse juxtaposition to the "happy" coca cola advertisement that has told us for years that if you just give the world a coke, you could teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.

What a special gift you have, to combine a heart that is passionate for justice and filled wih love, a mind that discerns truth and an eye that sees and treasures beauty. I have often visited your site and been struck by this wonderful mix, and this single post shows it all.
Bonne Annee!

Gorgeous daughter, gorgeous mother, too! We're always saying goodbye to our daughters, aren't we?
There's been a very effective and deeply moving tv ad campaign here to elicit help for Darfur. And about time, too.
Happy New Year, bright star!

Beautiful farewell pics of Jordana. The red balloon so sweet and right out of a storybook. The elevator doors advertising Coke juxtaposed with the paragraph on Darfur was chilling. Amazing. The highs and lows of life all in one place at the Charles de Gualle Airport.

There is so much to comment on in this one post! Your daughter is beautiful and I hope someday to step foot into Cd'G airport! As for Darfur, what can one say? A terrible, terrible tragedy, and I daresay if you ask someone walking on the street in your neighborhood about Darfur, they wouldn't know what the heck you were talking about. At least in my neighborhood...
The world is spinning out of control.

What a beauty Jordana is! Lovely photos. I have to say Cd'G airport has been, for me, one of the most confusing places ! But it the only time I have spent in
France so I shall cherish the hours of confusion. Happy New Year to you and yours sweet Tara.
