I'm not normally a romantic, but that turquoise box and your words kinda melted something in me. I've no desire to marry, but that doesn't mean I'd turn down a diamond ;-)

Ascender and Star, the glass domes were very much a part of French, British and Belgium decor during the age of exploration and remain popular in many French decors. Explorers brought home unusual specimens, shells, animals, etc. and they were stored under the glass domes. In some museums, you can still see stuffed birds, etc. under these domes. If you lean a rusty mailbox from the 19th-century against a wall, it looks like a rusty old mailbox. If you put it in a glass dome, add antique Christmas cards and stick a stuffed pheasant on the top, some might consider it art. I also have nine gilt crowns stacked one on top of the other in a similar glass dome and a Spanish sunburst silver crown inside a third smaller dome. Another large dome is filled with antique Christmas ornaments. Some people fill them with fruit or flowers. Of course art is in the eye of the beholder.

that mailbox is interesting... though like others curious about the dome... to keep the dust off? to preserve the bird?

Colette

Oh the letters and cards that must have passed through that mailbox. And les factures, aussi!

I love your style, Tara!

I have one of those glass domes, it was my great grandmas - you know, I never knew what it was but you certainly gave me some ideas :)

Tara, that mailbox is such a dream. I love the Christmas card peeking out from within.

Brilliant set of haiku and photos, Tara! As ever, the antiques are lovely ... but the Tiffany's box, well, that's every girl's dream (not just Audrey!) xo, d

Jone

What great photos. I really love the writer's box. And whatif there were really letters in the first one?

Kamsin

I love the box of ideas! I could do with one of those to keep the old creative juices flowing!

leonie

Nice! And all too frequent an experience for this writer. :-) Wonderful photos, especially the mailbox under glass.

Becca

Ah, the Tiffany's blue box - I did get one once, and I kept the box and all the trimmings! Sometimes, the containers themselves are very special.

Lovely haiku :)

sarala

Great poems and boxes.

You know, i don't really wear jewellery
because i have a pierced nose and it
just seems to be too much but i have
always longed for something from
Tiffany's.
(like charms for my charm bracelet)

I don't know if I commented after coming back to browse through your petit tresor pics. I COVET so many of your finds. I would be out of my mind over there. The seltzer and pharmacy bottles.. the mirrors. Oh my. I just love. all. vintage. glass.

The mailbox is wonderful in itself--under the dome, not as much. But the haiku were good! :-)

And can I just say...Tiffany...*sigh* That unmistakable blue.

Crafty Green Poet
