For One Deep Breath's "roots/connection" challenge, three haiku to match photos by Marie-Claire Holmes:

Roots wrap this building
strangling the infrastructure
but can't stifle growth

The trees grow taller
as buildings collapse with age
man's folly displayed

Roots run deeper now
than any stone foundation
nature's strength unmatched

Splendid pictures, m'dear!
And the accompanying haikus--mahvellous, simply de-lec-table!

The haiku are wonderful and the photos are astounding...doubly so because Tom took almost identical photos (times 200)...this is Ankor Wat!

Just amazing, Tara! To think that nature is so tenacious and yet so fragile...

The words and the pictures are moving. How neat it would be to study those roots in person. Really amazing.

I've always been fascinated at how plants can break through stone. Nature is a lot stronger than we are...which is why we need to respect it.

Amazing photos and words! In a bit of synchronicity, I've just discovered a vine that's grown completely around part of our fence, so that the fence goes right through the middle of the plant (it had been hidden under some overhanging ivy) - I don't know how they do that, the endurance and cunning of Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me.

I raced over here when I saw the roots challenge - how do you do it? I sat for hours trying to think of one word to start with.
Tara - you are an amazing poet. Love these and the pictures are great! look at those ancient tree roots! makes me feel small in the scheme of things
Posted by: miss*R | 29 January 2007 at 22:23
Amazing photos - that last one particularly really captures the sheer strength of the trees.

No matter how brilliant we are in our design and construction, nature will always win out. Just gorgeous, Tara.

Amazing images--you beautifully wed them to the words! "but can't stifle growth"--those are ones I'll hold onto.
Love,
D.

Those roots on the buildings are counterintuitive to me. Manmade structures and natural growth shouldn't be so intertwined, and yet they are. There's a lesson in there somewhere.

absolutely enchanting!
I love each photograph~
Much love and many blessings.
