Subtle buds emerge
riotous blooms of colour
echoed in monk's robes
Bright colours inspire
cheery countenance in a
world tinged sad and grey

Sorry comment below is in wrong post, should have been Early Signs of Spring, the first photo there.

Hallo Tara, There's a photo/art competition run by Swedish womens clothing company, Gudren Sjoden, images entitled Favourite Sign of Spring and I thought your first photo, the lily, would be great.

Awesome haiku Tara. And the pictures are amazing. Yellow happens to be one of my favorite colors.
Posted by: bella | 02 March 2007 at 15:13
we have a monk living across the road - I love to see his orange & yellow robes hanging out to dry... he never looks sad. I wonder if he ever is?
Posted by: miss*R | 02 March 2007 at 06:57
Love the color! Love the juxtaposition of the flower with the monks' robes. Delightful!
Posted by: Egret's Nest | 02 March 2007 at 04:47
Perfect Tara, just perfect
Posted by: Hundred and one | 01 March 2007 at 23:18
that first one is genius, even without the pictures. the active/passive contrast between rioting and monk's robes is really effective.

Fun - what a nice surprise!

I love the haiku! I especially like how the two poems and photos are related to one another. Great job!

What a great combination! I love those colors.

Like meredith's home, the colors here are also white if all I do is look down, but right now the sky is the perfect azure blue of a painting. I'm thinking that this could be a Rothko, a wash of blue set with a blue tinged white. Two squares of gorgeous color, two meditations on what color is.
Thank you for the poems and for commenting at my blog.

I should have visited earlier... what praise to add to this generous list?
These images will stay with me today, I think. Thank you.

I have never connected the colors, although I have wondered about the robes. A very interesting pair of poems.

The tiger lilies like the monks, beautiful imagery. Indeed the search for joyful moments are needed in the world today.

Lovely echoing of a beatiful colour.

Love the play with color and words!

Beautiful pictures and all about the beautiful saffron orange color. I like the way the color echoes in the background of the second picture.

I was not so excited about coming back to Afghanistan after this last holiday, but visiting your blog (and many of my other favorites) brings back the colour, beauty and inspiration.
Thank you.

The monks' robes do indeed look like the blossoming flowers, what beautiful colors.
Posted by: meredith | 27 February 2007 at 10:36
The color here at the moment is white. But come spring, well, summer, tiger lilies in exactly that color will be filling a part of the garden behind my building.
Monks laughing...reminds me of the Dalai Lama, whose laughter warms my heart.
Posted by: Colette | 27 February 2007 at 05:52
Oh, how appropriate. The two meanings. The monks, the flowers...Your parents garden?? wow!!
Posted by: Vanessa | 27 February 2007 at 05:14
This reminds me of Eat, Pray, Love...

I love your blog. That pretty much sums it up.
Posted by: holli | 27 February 2007 at 01:49
Now I'll always think of tiger lilies as little monks.
To answer your previous post's question: In these "tinged sad and grey" days, if I didn't forcibly keep my eyes upon monks' orange robes, bloggers who bring beauty to my eyes every single day without fail or some other point of sanity 99% of the time, I'd descend into hatred & despair.
Then Mr. Bush (I refuse him the title) et al would win. That cannot be allowed to happen.

I could use some of that color right now. But the snow keeps falling. Counting the days until spring.
Posted by: sarala | 26 February 2007 at 23:57
Tara,
The colors, the pictures, and the haiku could not be coupled more perfectly. Well done girl!
