Haiku written for One Deep Breath's shelter prompt:

Portal at Alcazar Palace, Sevilla, Spain
Even this palace
with its door like a fortress
can't escape conflict
Built high on a hill
to deter all invaders
yet no safe havens

Desert Castles, Qusayr Amra, Jordan
Shelter elusive
time's erosion: stone crumbles
temporary home
In Paris they camp
in tents by the Seine while the
government dithers
It looks like home but
don't get too comfortable
soon time to move on
Decorate the rooms
settle in for a long stay
nothing permanent
You might call this home
but just simple bricks and stones
You are my real home
I traveled the world
only to discover that
home is where you are

Love the photos and your 4th last and last haiku.

first one about the alcazar palace is my favorite. i've got a thing for doors and portals. its a shame that the more beautifully we build things, the uglier we are when we tear them down.

I was in an ashram years ago and the yogi introduced himself to a visiting young man. "Where do you live?" he asked him. The man pointed with his thumb to his heart. That image has always stayed me; the real home.

So much in these I don't know where to start. I guess it's dangerous to place too much hope and trust in mere bricks and mortar when you're in need of shelter.

The most meaningful and lasting shelter comes from those who love us most...beautifully expressed:) Love the castle photos, too!

I love the image of the castles, their sandy appearance along with your haikus reminds one of the impermanence of external things and the importance of all that is within. ~beautiful!

all are so meaningful tara, but it is the last one that has the greatest meaning for me - our home within ourselves.

Just beautiful, Tara. The last stanza really hit home for me.
Shelters may be temporary but a home in the heart last forever...
I am working on my haiku right now...
