Petra is my personal favourite among the 21 finalists for the New Seven Wonders of the World. Queen Rania of Jordan told reporters that Jordanians are proud to be custodians of "the stunning heritage of the Nabatean people." "Indeed, we feel that many of our modern Jordanian national characteristics are notably similar to those of the ancient Nabateans," the Queen remarked. "Like them, we have carved out a unique role as a bridge between diverse regions and cultures. And, like them, we are a peaceful culture committed to international commerce and dialogue. The magical rose-red city of Petra is like nothing else on earth. It is a remarkable testimony to the human spirit, etched for all time in sandstone and shale."
Other finalists for the New Seven Wonders of the World include the Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt; Angkor Wat, Cambodia; the Parthenon, Greece; the Coliseum, Rome; the Taj Mahal, India; Stonehenge, England; the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. To vote for your seven favourites, go here.

Who votes? Why are we changing? Not that I know all seven but I'm curious what the criteria is. Petra is awesome Tara! XXOO

Petra is my favorite too, although I think Angkor Wat is just amazing, as well.

Though Petra is incredible I would have to vote for the pyramids! They amaze me each time I see them. The sheer volume and lines!
Tara responds:
I like the Pyramids as well. Luckily, each person gets to vote for seven "wonders."

Oh, I remember your post on Petra, several months ago, I enjoyed reading it so much. Judging from the photos I've seen here, and elsewhere since, Petra certainly appears to be a world wonder! xo

I just had to pop in and have a look (via Maryam's My Marrakesh).. I just love this place... the antiques! reminds me of my childhood... My mother ran an antique business.. everything we ate off, sat on or slept in was for sale, restored or in the process of restoration... I love the practical use of the "basket of bombs!!" :o)
