This wrought iron piece of art was once a highway directional sign in France. I like it for three reasons: its resemblance to a Spanish cross, the sunburst center and its black finish, which reminds me of the wrought iron balcony grillwork in Seville. I first saw it at the brocante at Bastille last November, but the price was too high. Last week at Chatou, I saw the dealer, who offered me a deep discount. The piece now hangs on the wall of our dining room.

I like that sign very much. It has swirls on it and they always appeal to me. And I like your meme and will put it on my blog soon.

Oh, and I do like the sign. It looks like a cross at first glance. You were obviously meant to have it!!

I was waiting for the concierge to get back from lunch, so I tried it on the Italian Wikipedia. It threw up this pearl, translated here: (
1582 - this day did not exist on the Gregorian calendar; to realign the calendar with the seasons, the days between [october] 5 and 14, 1582 were deleted.
Good thing I wasn't born in that year; I wouldn't have had a birthday!!
