Two female icons and cover girls are side-by-side in a quai vendor's bookstall along the Seine. I think it's interesting that the old Paris Match depicting Audrey Hepburn is bright and sunny, whereas the one showing Marilyn Monroe's face is darker, in the shadows - perhaps in recognition of the tragedy of her early death.

Vintage postcards are mixed with new in a quai vendor's stall.

La mode, la mode, la mode - A Paris television show by the same name features au courant fashion, but this vendor had prints featuring 18th, 19th and mid-20th century styles.

I really loved this series of posts.. especially the old pics of Audrey and Marilyn.. and how you try to find the symbolism in EVERYTHING.

I love each and every pictorial and description from the walk along to the Seine to here...it's like a travel log and many things are items I would have been drawn to were I there in person. It's funny the excitement it creates to see other parts of the world some may take for granted as being "always there". It's like someone giddy over San Francisco when for me "it's always there". It doesn't mean these places are less amazing it's just when you cannot be there to smell the fragrances, touch the stone buildings or admire an antique or hear the language spoken etc....the interest is heightened. I am quite grateful for those of you living abroad to bring your worlds a little closer to ours.

such a delight to stroll through Paris and environs with you - I went to Paris for the first time on my 21st birthday (in April) some 30 years ago and I loved those postcard stalls and oh! the architectural detailing, the vitrines... so these images brought me sweet memories of my youthful wanderings -
and yes you do provide a very "thinking blog" and it is so appreciated.
