So that's Louis the Sun King. Huh. Looks kind of chubby to me-- kind of in need of a chin tuck. But I suppose that being well-fed in his time was a sign of high society. Interesting.

My family was in France last summer for six weeks with my two boys aged 7 and 10. We spent three days and two nights at Versailles and your picture fills my head with lavish memories. At night after the crowds had dispersed, I remember sitting on the grand staircase down from the fountain garden and watching my seven year old son run laps around the Grand Canal. Bliss.

Hi Tara,
Greetings from Moscow!
Its been a long time I visited your blog. Great to know that you were in Versailles. I was there in Jan 2006 and I loved the magificence of everything there including the vast garden behind the Palace.

I will!

I went to Versailles on a school trip, and my 16-year-old self was amazed at the shortness of the beds and enthralled with the unfinished portait by David of Bonaparte. I especially liked Le petit Trianon.
