Montreuil-sur-mer is filled with beautiful churches, many of them dating back several centuries. This building is now the annex of a larger church, but was probably the original church, before additions were built.

I really like this old wooden door and the coloured brick and stone in the church annex.
The church as viewed from a distance.
An arched entranceway over the church's main double doors with statues of Christ and angels.
The entrance features a stone statue of Madonna and child.
A starburst of stone at the church's entranceway echoes a star above statues over the doorway.
One of the stained glass interior windows that graces the main part of the church.
A decorative altar in a small chapel.
A Madonna statue, a candelabra and a paintng in another chapel.
Prayer candles are lit inside a third chapel.
A statue of a saint on a stone pillar.

A Beautiful Blog. Wow!! I am so envious!! If I lived close by, this would definitely be my prayer chapel. How could one not pray inside a church as beautiful as this? And when not praying I would probably be painting it and all the people:))

I love old buildings. On the weekend, I was in the city of Sydney and damn it, I didn't have my camera - even though we are a 'young' country in terms of white settlements - our buildings from Federation times are exquisite - next time I go, I must remember to get that camera.

I love the unity in the little details like the stone work and the repeating patterns. Would even consider going to church if I colud go to one that looked like that.
