An ornately-gilded and hand-painted baroque ceiling at Versailles depicts angels and cherubs, as well as the French royal crest.

Another painted ceiling leads to gold gilt and multi-coloured marble walls.
This huge bronze and gold chandelier is suspended from the top floor at Versailles, lighting the marble stairwell near the Chapelle Royale.
A marble bust of Louis XIV, who turned Versailles from a simple hunting lodge outside Paris to a magnificent gilded palace. On Wednesday, I'll be escorting friends from London to Versailles, so expect more photos - if you can stand more gold gilt! I'll look for different views this trip: less gilt, more outdoor scenes.
Celadon vases and a gold gilt and ebony marble clock grace this fireplace mantel of mottled ivory.
