In the 1920s, beaded flapper-style dresses were all the rage. These delicate beading needles show a work in progress featuring tiny seed pearls on grey silk. They are among the items found in a small red wooden chest chest dating from the 1920s. Among the items in the five drawers are decorative beads and accessories for making jewelery, including handbag frames and clasps, brooches and jet tassles. Some small beaded pouches are included, as are various scissors, needles, threads and other sewing items. I'm thinking my daughter the design student will go mad for all these things. A few items also should prove useful in collages and other art projects.

These are awesome! I'm pumped!! I love the green woven beads the best, they remind me of vintage beaded purses.

What a seamstress' delight! These are the kinds of treasure you long to unearth
in some dusty corner of a forgotten thrift shop...is there such a thing any more?

That is so very cool--especially the first photo. I never knew that those beaded bags were "knit" like that. Oooh, I wish I had the patience to learn how to do it for real. Beautiful beads.

Your daughter will no doubt enjoy these things. I have a sewing kit that has been handed down to me, with bobbins in Old Spice jars etc...and I treasure it.

I have some old gowns that were my Great Grandmothers (and I hope my family doesn't find this comment) but I just freak when my sister tries to wear them out to.. well, cocktail places!!
I really want the antique kimono my Great Grandfather brought back from Japan. It is gorgeous.

Great find! Enjoy poking around in that chest.
Do you know where this treasures comes from? The beaded white bag makes me think that the beads could be from Gablonz, the Bohemian town (now partn of The Czech Republic), renowned for its glass production and the glass beads worked into Christmas ornaments and the like, here are some pictures:
http://www.schuster-fischer.de/gablonz/beginn.htm).
I got this glass bead ornament last Christmas at the Schönbrunn Christmas market: http://merisi.blogspot.com/search?q=gablonz
