...but it's true! France beat New Zealand 20-18 in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals tonight at Cardiff, Wales. This means France will play England next Saturday in the semi-finals at Stade de France in Paris. And the All Blacks, who were expected to claim the 2007 Rugby World Cup title, will be boarding a plane for New Zealand. Australia, also favoured to win this afternoon's quarterfinal match against England, was sent crashing out 12-10, thanks to Johnny Wilkinson's famed kicking skills. Allez les bleus!

What did I tell you? ;)

Everyone in New Zealand has a different excuse for why the All Blacks didn't win. The most sensible letter in this morning's paper pointed out that in a knock out competition, the best team doesn't always win - everyone can have an off day. Actually, I think the hype was just a bit too much. Shame about all the NZers flying over to watch the All Blacks, just when the All Blacks were flying home :)

Tara, please. Don't rub it in. This hurts. Now I have to write a retraction to my French friend of the commiserations I offered him before the match last night. Serves me right for getting my hopes up.
