Today is the 5th World Day against the Death Penalty. Organised by the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, it is marked by thousands of citizens and hundreds of organisations around the world. To find out more and sign the petition asking the United Nations General Assembly to support an international moratorium against the death penalty, go here.
Meanwhile, Europe is marking its first anti-death penalty day, organised by the Council of Europe, despite Poland's objections. Capital punishment is banned in all 27 European Union states. See the BBC report here.

It makes me think of Texas, death penalty central. Need I say more?

I still can't believe that the US still has the death penalty - it's 2007 for God's sake.

Blessing you Tara for this post. I am ardently PRO-LIFE. That makes me anti-abortion, anti-war, anti-capital punishment, anti-ANYTHING that institutionalizes the taking of human life. In my list of anti's, there is always something that others will be pro about so needless to say, I have few friends in this particular canoe. But I'm not troubled by this. We all have to be true to our beliefs and understanding the position that others may take makes for good communication.
