A heart-shaped keyhole in an ancient wooden door in Amboise, France. The artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life at Clos Luce in Amboise.
If you haven't seen English director Michael Winterbottom's film In This World, I urge you to rent the DVD. The story of two Afghani boys who make a hazardous journey from a refugee camp in Pakistan to what they imagine is a better life in London is a powerful cautionary tale. The film explores the desperate lengths to which refugees fleeing political unrest, violence and economic hardship will go, fueled by little more than hope. In This World paints a vivid picture of the dangers refugees frequently endure in their quest for basic human rights and freedoms that we take for granted. The film - which has the look and feel of a documentary - deservedly has won numerous prizes, including the Berlin Film Festival's Golden Bear for Best Film. It may change the way you view refugees and would-be immigrants.

I've put it on my Netflix queue!

Canada (especially Toronto where I am) has a high turn over of refugees...one area close to where I live has refugees pass through every month to three months. It is extremely difficult for the schools in that area because of the turnover, yet this is a small inconvenience when you realize what these people have left behind.
I cannot even begin to imagine what life is like where these people flee from to seek sanctuary...every human being has the right to a decent life. We need to remember that.

Such an eye for detail, Tara! Many terrific movie recommendations in your latest posts, especially this one. I'd say many Americans need to see In This World if only for a reality check. Hope you're feeling well again soon! K.

The da Vinci heart is amazing. I've read he was depressed at the end of his life, have you read this?
Thinking of you. Sending you happy stars!
