Chinatown, San Francisco. I like the juxtaposition of cultures in the first image and the reflection of modern office buildings in the restaurant window (photo below). These photos were taken last week, when my daughter Jordana and I spent an afternoon walking through Chinatown, browsing for cinnabar bracelets and silk. I have many more San Francisco photos to post, but for three days, have been experiencing problems trying to load pictures via Typepad. It is hoped the problem soon will be resolved.
In the frustration of trying to blog despite technological glitches, I noticed that "Blogging butterflies in San Francisco," when viewed via the Firefox browser shows the text wrapping perfectly around the photos. But when viewed in Internet Explorer, there's a gaping hole between the copy and one photo. Sigh. You'd think by now these platforms would mesh in a uniform manner. Onwards and upwards!

Great Pictures. I have heard that some people predicted end of the world today at 8.08. Now it is postponed to 12.12.2012 at 12:12

The only Chinatown I had the chance to really walk through was the one in Amsterdam. I also took a quick glance from the bus in NYC. These photos look amazing and left me craving for some great Chinese food.

Gorgeous photos. I went to Chinatown with my family as a child and my only memory is that of vibrant color and a kimono I saw in an open store doorway. I would so love to go back one day!

Tara
It isn't the first time I've heard that TypePad blogs are best viewed on Firefox. I have Explorer and it hasn't given me any problems as of yet. I've always found your blog looks great, with no "wrapping" problems. FYI!!!
:)
On Tuesday at sunset, I received a proposal. Yes, for marriage. I've said yes! ;)
I'll blog it soon, much love to you sweets! Gillian

Awesome to see this because I just read a book from Isabel Allende called Daughter of Fortune and a significant part of it is placed right there, in Chinatown of S.F. back in the days of the Golden "Fever". Thanks for posting!

I don't think they want their programs to mesh! sigh! Anyway, I was fascinated to see the reflection of the buildings in the windows as they almost look Dahli-esque!

great photos, Tara. I have problems with WordPress sometimes, too.

Love seeing all the familiar images here. Haven't been to S.F. since February. I miss it.

I LOVE that Eastern Bakery sign. Love love love it. I can never get tired of Chinatown.
And Sarah, I hate to tell you but most of the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown are mediocre at best. Your best bet is to grab some dim sum and enjoy it outside at a park!
But, if you don't mind spending a little more and getting some really great dim sum, go to City View Restaurant, 662 Commercial St, San Francisco - (415) 398-2838. (There's no view, but the restaurant is upscale, very clean and the dim sum is very good and very fresh. It's not a dive so you'll pay more, but it's a nice place.)

Hey Paris Parfait, do you have a favorite restaurant in Chinatown by any chance? I have been looking for a good one!
Tara responds:
It's not much for atmosphere, but the food is fantastic at House of Nanking on Kearny St.

Great photos Tara. Such vibrant colors!!
I feel your browser pain!!! I recently switched from IE to Safari in anticipation of a new Macbook Laptop...and typepad doesn't really like it one bit!! My text is all over the place. Big gaps in the words and weird wrap patterns.
Oh, well. Someday they will all get along :)
