Cue the Barbra Streisand song "Happy Days are Here Again." Look what happens when we work hard and have faith! We can change the world. Barack Obama is our next president! Hip, hip, HOORAY!
I just tried to phone the United States and all the circuits are busy, because the whole world is trying to call the States, in celebration! Back later with a more thoughtful post, after hearing President-Elect Obama's speech and getting a little sleep.

Well if I wasn't already happy about the election, that video clip of my two singing idols singing TOGETHER would have put me over the edge! WHERE did you find that! I never knew they sang together, I had chills.
Thank goodness we all had the Audacity to Hope for a better future for America. Now, maybe we'll get it.

For you Tara and all Americans that made this happen - A GREAT BIG THANK YOU FROM THE UK.
I have been elated since the result was announced but over here in the UK we have no Barack Obama we just have 3 main parties that have nothing new to offer. Let's hope at least one of these parties decide to follow him with the same dedication they seemed to show George Bush (though that got us in deep sh*t).
I sit here with my fingers crossed and hope that this Change makes its way over the Atlantic and lands on our shores.

We did it. A community stood up and said YES WE CAN. And we did.
Sending love and a virtual high five!! xx, deb

My last comment here was so fearful, and then I was feeling better yesterday and I was going to come back and apologize and then I realized that it's normal for anyone to be afraid that it will be taken from us again, and yesterday I was so happy to vote, so excited about watching the results, and last night I cried and today I've gotten so many messages and words from friends colleagues family about how happy, relieved, hopeful we all are, and so TIRED from these years of electioneering and media wars and lying. What an intelligent, reasonable, inclusive man at peace with himself and already making sound decisions...
YAY!

Hi Tara, since I met naturegirl in September and she told me about you, I followed your blog from time to time. And I am very impressed about your fight for these elections.
And first thing this morning when I heard the good news in the radio was to go into your blog to see what you wrote/ said.
Congratulations to you and all Americans - there is really hope now for a change!

Tara, thank you for being our guide, our educator, our beacon. You helped us and provided a place to gather and share our thoughts.
Last night truly felt like a momentous event for Americans, but also for the rest of the world. I hope that hope and enthusiasm can stay with us through the tough times ahead. Yes we can!

I feel really happy about this. :) What this means for the world my kids are getting handed, is so, so important.
I also felt that McCain showed real class...It made me feel I was seeing The Real MacCain again. Too bad he lost touch with that man for awhile :(
I just can't help being down about our California Props! We had RECORD Democrats voting here...and Prop 8 Passes??! Gosh that makes me sad. Who knew so many Obama voters would be bigots about gays? :( Not to menetion prop 5... I guess people like paying billions of dollars on our giant prison system, and wouldn't want to risk not being able to fill it will drug users...
Sorry to be a downer on such a happy day! lol! *sigh* It is bitter sweet to me.
:)

Yes we did!
From Micheal Moore's newsletter: We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. (...) What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We've entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.

At 11pm, when the totals on CNN flicked over to victory, my phone started exploding. I said to my friend "If I had Tara's number, I would be calling Paris."
As you may imagine, it was especially amazing here in Atlanta. While Georgia is stuck in the dark ages, Atlanta celebrated. As a child who started school in Alabama on the first day of Freedom of Choice, I was so excited to have one of my childhood friends, a tall beautiful black woman (who terrorized me as a little kid) was texting me till after 2am. WE can, we did and most importantly, WE WILL.
Have you seen the news coverage that Bush is bugging out of the White House ASAP? Offering offices to Obama's staff?
Posted by: Michelle | 05 November 2008 at 16:35
I've never heard such loud cheering and banging of pans in my neighborhood as was heard last night. Leftover 4th of July fireworks were used down the street. One neighbor had a baton and was leading his friends up and down the street cheering. There is never this much cacophany even on New Year's. Yes we did and will.

Tara, it is a morning here in Texas I think I shall remember forever. I woke up singing, "Oh Happy Day." I am, for the first time in a very long time, proud to say I'm an American. Proud that the voters did the right thing for all in our country. And all around the world. I just wish "President" Obama's grandmother could have lived to see this day. That would have been very special. As he grieves, he also celebrates. Oh happy day!

Good morning everyone!
So much to celebrate!!!!!! Thank you for your party.
What a momentous night and what an AMAZING SPEECH given our Pres. elect OBAMA!! This has been a long and arduous journey, but because of people like you Tara, who have had courage to speak from your heart and get the word out, we all can start rebuilding our country, there is SO much to repair!! But together......... we can do it!! YES WE CAN!
Like Kelly S. above, I live in a community where democrats are a minority, so I will screen and dance and shout here!!
It was extremely moving to see the collection of people all standing together in Chicago and New York and in front of the White House in Washington DC shouting for joy. All races, all ages, all with looks of Hope on their face.
I will never forget this moment, sitting with my mother with tears streaming down our cheeks listening to this fine mans speech last night. Such dignity he exudes.
This has been a defining moment in my life.
God bless President Obama.
May he be surrounded in light.

Tara I woke up this morning and first thing I thought was:
Tara will be so happy! A new beginning for America!
Posted by: naturegirl | 05 November 2008 at 13:37
We knew the world would be watching and we had to see for ourselves. When Obama was named President-Elect we both had tears in our eyes.
We are so proud of all Americans for WAKING UP and being strong enough to GROW in the right direction!!
What a speech! What a great leader this man will make. I predict amazing things. I look forward to seeing the next four years unfold. It will not only effect America, but the entire world.
Let's see how many points the stock exchange rises this morning....
Yay! Hugging you from across the ocean...and you have my congratulations.

Unfortunately, I cannot show this happy feeling where I work (french administration) but all day i have worn a non-stop smile on my face, in the street, in the bus, at work and i shall be dancing tonight in my flat.

Hi Tara! I was up until 4AM watching the results.
Oh I am SO enjoying this. I hope this wipes out the last remnants of the far right in America. Remember how we all felt back in 2000 and 2004? This is sweet.
Posted by: kim | 05 November 2008 at 11:11
Hey Tara! What wonderful news - I could barely dare hope yesterday!
Maybe we could meet up one of these days for a glass of champagne to celebrate this.
Posted by: Casey | 05 November 2008 at 10:13
A friend has just sent me these few words, and they embody my sentiment of hope. She said, "bravo les américains, il a fallu du temps, mais ils ont compris."
Bravo, Americans, it took time, but they've finally understood.
She's right. Congratulations to you, to Americans in general, and indeed to the world.

I have never been more moved by an acceptance speech in my life. We are witnessing history here. The people have spoken and they want change. Yes we can! and we did!
Posted by: Yoli | 05 November 2008 at 07:15
I've a summer behind on visiting most of my favorite blogs but when Obama won tonight and the tears and dancing and phone calls from my excited kids all died down, I thought of you and I just knew you'd have a post up already! I was so afraid to hope. I'm now feeling limp with relief. Of course, as Obama said in his speech tonight, this is where it all begins. I'm so grateful for this new start.
Posted by: Laume | 05 November 2008 at 07:04
I feel so privileged to have witnessed this moment. It's humbling to think about the challenges this man will face in the coming months/years. CHANGE HAS COME TO AMERICA! My voice is shot after this night's celebrations.

Yippee skippee dancing is on going! Is this not the most wonderful thing to be part of? And did you see that NM now has 2 Democratic Senators for the first time since 1972. Democrats have been elected across the state in seats that have NEVER been Democratic! Winds of change they are a blowing. Back to the dance!! smooches, big smooches, big happy smooches
