Barbara, thank you for your very thoughtful comments. We ALL have to contribute towards a peaceful 'big picture.' Sadly, too many would rather cling to hatred than make the effort to resolve differences. Yet we are more alike than we are different. If we could focus on those similarities, rather than the differences, perhaps we could achieve real progress. One can only hope!

Yesterday I made a note to self to get some heavy duty picture hangers and as I did I remembered something my husband and I used to say to describe some things: "A 'loss of big picture accident'". All of this, all of it, is appallingly short-sighted and negates everything we are as human beings. Too many of the powers-that-be have lost the big picture; we're meant to build one another up, not tear each other down. I found a quote from Robert Redford in this morning's NYT, "Art is central to our species and our society." I wish everyone with a destructive thought toward someone else would take the time to do something artful first. I do believe the pen - and the camera, the canvas - is mightier than the sword. People like you, Tara, help depict what can come next - the peaceful 'big picture'.

Me too, Christina. Hope is what I cling to, in the midst of all these terrible things unfolding around us.

This brings more questions to me, about Guantanamo. I can't wait for the day this all starts to change, to shift. We can do this, I have hope. ; )

It's shocking isn't it?
I agree it needs to be shut down. Obama is the man for the job. The change we need seems to already be happening. Thank goodness.
It is only just over the horizon...come on January 20th~!
