Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman writes in The New York Times that an inquest should be launched into the actions of the Bush administration. No one should be allowed to get away with the widespread damages and unmitigated disasters Bush & Co. heaped on the United States - and the world. No one is above the law. Read the full story here.
Glenn Greenwald reports in Salon that binding U.S. law requires prosecutions for those who authorize torture - including Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft, Condoleeza Rice et al.
"...And the philosophy that was at the base of the last administration has ruined many, many people's lives. The deregulation, the idea of the unfettered, free market, the blind foreign policy. This was a very radical group of people who pushed things in a very radical direction, had great success at moving things in that direction and we are suffering the consequences." - Bruce Springsteen, in an interview with The Guardian.
Better days ahead - starting Tuesday!

I hope they do expose all their actions and subject them to prosecution, if the law was broken.
And wasn't Tuesday WONDERFUL??!! A new day; a new era. xoxox

I think the whole world was happy to witness Bush's departure.

The only good thing he has done is to make the transition easy for Obama. I suppose he thought everything else would be forgotten if he did that as his last act. FOOL!

It will be interesting to see if the illegal, immoral and downright stupid actions of BushCo come under legal scrutiny. I can imagine the political conflict that the Obama administration would face in making that decision.
Tomorrow is a NEW DAY! Whoo hoo!! xx, deb

P.S. There's really no place for negative thinking, when trying to move forward. Negative thinking is a remnant of eight years of Republican rule.

I did not use the phrase "champion on ice." Barack Obama accomplished a great deal when in the Senate; you only have to take a look at his record. If you are wondering "where my thinking is coming from," you can read my archives under "Obama," "2008 election," and "politics." And by the way, this article and its links on which you're commenting are about George W. Bush and his many disastrous mistakes, not Obama.
Why don't you wait and see how Obama does as president, before making any snap judgments? One thing is certain: Barack Obama will be a vast improvement over George W. Bush. And if you are a McCain supporter disappointed about the election results, you need to get over that and deal with reality. Perhaps you might consider what you can do to help change America for the better, rather than persist with "us vs. them" politics. We are all Americans and should work together to correct the mistakes of the Bush administration and make a stronger, better country that can once again take its place in the world with pride.

You see Obama as a "champion on ice"? He hasn't done anything YET, but campaign and make promises.(same as every other candidate) Even when he was in the senate, he did little or nothing! It simply amazes me that so many have seen him as the new Messiah, based on nothing. Where is your thinking coming from? I find it curious.

Oh, Helen, thank you so much for your lovely remarks! My post honouring MLK is above. It's a wonderful thing to see the journey he began punctuated with Obama's presidency. Of course there's still a long road ahead for African-Americans to achieve real equality. Too many white-supremecist hate groups try to fan the flames of racism. Thankfully, brave organisations like the Southern Poverty Law Center continue to monitor hate groups and defend their victims.

Only one more day!
It will take more than a few months to dig out of the last eight years but we have begun the climb! Today is MLK Day in the USA and how I wish he could have seen this inauguration.
Cheers to everyone as we raise our glasses on Tuesday-- and especially to Tara whose blog I discovered when I had begun to lose hope!

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the hello and encouraging words. Yes, Tuesday is a day for us all to celebrate. It's a wonderful thing to see all our hard work come to fruition. Of course the real work is just beginning.
So sad about Anna's mom; at least she isn't suffering anymore.
Love to you, too, Robin. Hope you're enjoying your trip.

tuesday will be a day to celebrate and prepare for digging ourselves out of this mountain of garbage. i just had to take a peek here to say hello and give you a virtual hug. you have given so much of yourself here throughout this past year. you have done well to educate and encourage us all in finding hope and being responsible for "being the change". i am still at the beach and here another day but we have a wee bit of a wireless signal and you were the person i wanted to come and see after going over to see how anna's mom was doing :(
love to you tara! i'll think of you on tuesday!!!!

Let's hope all their dastardly deeds aren't just swept under the rug...

There have been rather underground rumblings about charges being filed against Bush & Company -- - so glad to hear that mainstream NY Times is actually putting this out. Once that volcano starts erupting, who knows what might spew forth from the depths ... . . .

We've got champagne on ice too. If ever there was a time to celebrate, it's Tuesday!
