Rather ominous economic rumblings on rue Cambon: layoffs at tbe venerable House of Chanel. C'est pas vrai! Oui, c'est vrai! A Crime Scene Investigation vehicle is part of a French film crew preparing to shoot scenes Thursday near the Ritz on rue Cambon.
Chanel's 31 rue Cambon vitrines are as stylish as ever.
Fencing, anyone? Perhaps a bit of skiing in the French Alps?
For apres-skiing - or swimming, a warm jacket accented with Chanel's trademark camellia.
At the other end of the street, a simpler fashion advertising the winter sales.
As I was snapping this photo, two Frenchwomen walked by and agreed the paper cut-out dress was "très original."
And I love New York!
P.S. More about the Antiquites Brocante at Bercy later.

It doesn't seem that Chanel is in serious danger - just feeling the economic pinch like most big companies and laying off a few people.

31 rue Cambon endangered? Oh, non! At least it should be preserved as a Musée Chanel! And I agree the white paper cutout dress is très original! xoxo

You're not the only one would would need a slip! Yes, let's make them and hit the town! Hmmm...maybe wait until spring? It's a bit cold for paper dresses at the moment. :) xoxox

You could make one just like it! Just get a roll of butcher paper and scissors. :)

I am dying for that paper dress. I adore it!

Lisa, lots of exciting changes swirling all about you - it's normal to be sleepless and anxious. But I expect your next adventure will be a great success and hopefully, a little less stressful. Bon courage, as the French say!

Do you remember when paper dresses were a fleeting fad? I think they cost about $6 and were available in plastic bags at your local greeting card shop. I bought one and wore it over my swimsuit. :)

It is a great haircut, isn't it? But your hair is beautiful as is. Miss you too. Hope to catch up soonest. xo

I agree it - one of my favourite cities. I loved living there.

Hi Tara,
Thank you for your lovely comments. The store closure is going very well. I must say I am just anxious for it to be all over and on to the next phase of the journey. I am still waking up at 2:30am with my mind racing and my body saying "No, go back to sleep"!
Hope all is well with you. Right now I have so little time to blog... I feel a little bit like the child kept in at recess looking out the window at all the other little kids playing outside!
Take care,
Lisa & Alfie

It is a cool crime scene van - and like all Paris vehicles, a bit the worse for wear, thanks to the crazy way people park (by nudging other vehicles until there's room for theirs, etc.) and drive here. :)

PS: God bless Ny! I love it!

Hope this trip you're not flying in one direction and me in another!

My husband is so going to love, love this picture of the crime scene van! I love that! ; ) How cool, that filming will be. I am in love with your windows, but you know this. ; )

Now that we're in the new year, my springtime return to Paris doesn't seem so far away -- it's not "next year" any longer. Meanwhile, I have your great pics to feed my Paris wishing -- I especially love the windows and these ones are a great example of why I do.

Merci! And that pilot's friends and neighbors should be proud - what an amazing job! It's a rare and wonderful thing when a forced landing has a happy ending.

Thanks for the peek into the Chanel windows - such style! Love that fencer goes skiing jumpsuit and the paper snowflake dress display is "très original" indeed.
The pilot who landed the airplane in the Hudson is from Danville, here in the Bay Area. His neighbors and friends are besides themselves with pride and joy.
