I took this photo of a sign above an entranceway in Amsterdam, simply because I liked the typeface.
As many of you know, I am mad about fonts and typefaces. Must be my newspaper background. I own several books about typefaces and collect vintage printer's letters. I also have about 20 beautiful and unusual fonts that I rarely get to use. If you have the technical savvy to use CSS within Typepad to manipulate fonts in the sidebar, as well as a hassle-free way to combine various fonts within selected posts, please contact me.
Meanwhile Argentinian Alejandro "Ale" Paul is the latest innovative designer in the spotlight at MyFonts.com. Read the interview and follow the links to view Alejandro's extensive collection of unique fonts.
Hatred and lies at church in Tempe, Arizona
In Europe, Muslim leaders who incite hatred in mosques are arrested and sometimes deported. But this hate-filled "pastor" in a church in Tempe, Arizona seems proud of his racism, ignorance and stupidity. Steven Anderson is apparently suffering no legal consequences, despite publicly praying for the president's death!
I see nothing remotely Christian about Anderson's despicable behavior and pity those who listen to his delusional rantings.

Thanks, Michelle. I bought the Helvetica DVD. And it's usually the people who have excellent healthcare who exhibit little concern for those who don't. Somehow they think things will continue along blissfully, but the economics don't support that theory.

I've been a fan of Alejandro Paul's Studio. AND I have the DVD of Helvetica, if you would like to borrow it. Kit is correct in the assessment of CSS and typefaces. If there is something special you want to use, render it in Illustrator or Photoshop and then place it as art.
Also, I think that the nutjob preacher has crossed the line. In any other country, he would be in jail. On Facebook yesterday, I was attacked by a childhood classmate because I said that the US should have healthcare for all. I hope I get to stay here in the UK.

Love fonts! How sad that this man is allowed to preach hate.

i love what marianne (above) says about loving and hate. i would also like to throw in a little compassion and to see what might happen.
I have always collected fonts and yet i hardly use any of those curly, elegant, angular beauties. i just like to look at them and pretend i have some way to actually use them. they are like art!

I see a few others have beaten me to make sure you know about the documentary "Helvetica" - you must not miss it, if you haven't already seen it.
As for the hater, my wish for him is an experience of such deep and inexplicable love that he simply cannot hate that way any longer. Just saying...

That would be considered hate speech here, and he would have been duly charged. I believe people like him use the label "Christian" to hide behind...

There is a simple reality check for those who believe that all their actions are sanctioned by God. Ask these questions.
When did you last have actual communication with God?
Was it by phone, email, fax, snail-mail?
This makes my blood boil. And on the issue of abortion, men, and I mean all men and that would include the almighty should stay out of an issue that does not directly concern them. These so called men of God, who come out as anti-women, are also, by their very love of their guns, anti-life.

Fonts are just lovely. I'm obsessed with them, to be honest. : )
Anderson needs to check himself! Goodness!

That made my skin crawl...
on the font front, have you seen the documentary Helvetica? wonderful!

I know, I couldn't believe that horrible man's rant! And that folks didn't get up and leave makes me even sadder. Thanks for balancing it out with beauty. smooches

I love this art deco type! But I hate hearing about hatred and racism, especially when it comes from "a man of God." Yea right. How can they even go there?

I'm a font fan, too! There was a marvelous documentary called "Helvetica" on PBS. I was smitten! Not by helvetica, but by the idea that someone would do a documentary on type!

Hi I love your blog and will follow. I found you on Style Saloniste.
I think you can't get {all the wonderful} fonts to appear just by manipulating CSS...online fonts are restricted to what the browser of the person viewing can view..usually just the same very few we see over and over. The only way I know to use wonderful fonts online is to use them in a jpeg, pdf, etc. (see my header on http://chicprovence.blogspot.com for a lot of fonts, but in a jpeg)
This is my understanding but maybe someone else has another take....
Am so glad I found your blog...I love the post two or three below about letting things go out of the apartment, and extending to people....good taking care of yourself!
all the best!

I also adore fonts, I used to be mad about creating beautiful letters when I was a little girl using my calligraphy pen & inks.
That sign is beautiful. xoxo
