Papier-mache puppets at Sophie Pretelat's Anges et Demons stand at the Antiquities Brocante at Bastille. This is the last weekend, so get your skates on! The brocante - with stands lining both sides of Canal St. Martin - is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday. You can buy tickets at the main entrance on Place de la Bastille.
More papier-mache puppets, including one representing a drunk (below).
A rather morose-looking statue holding homemade candles, hanging from their wicks.
A giant brass Madonna crown and a small collection of plaster animals.
19th-century oil painting of a buxom lass.
Framed woodcut designs on a Swedish desk.
The top of a Napoleon III gilt and mercury glass mirror.
A bust, cranberry glass carafe and glasses and blue gazing balls, for luck.
19th-century slate medallions; the one on the right is Napoleon Bonaparte.
An 18th-century well-worn wooden horse, with its original paint.
Mercury glass candlesticks.
Incredibly beautiful linens and lace at this stand. So tempting!

Great pictures, especially the puppets ones! I wish I were there at the brocante!

Tara, I just came back from France and visited the Bastille antiques market while there. VERY expensive! I could not buy things and sell them here (in Massachusetts) and make a profit. It was astoundingly beautiful though and well worth the trip. The other thing I found while in Paris surprised me...I thought I would be intimidated by the Chic Parisians...I was not. Though by no means "slim," I am not obese either. I am no fashion plate (don't wear makeup and dress sensibly-clean and classic, more on the conservative side.)I saw many heavy women and felt quite at comfortable side by side with the well-healed women I met. Interesting.

Hey gorgeous,
You constantly show off all the beauty around you, and I love it! I see some of these things and I'm mentally finding homes in my house for them. ;)
Oh dear! I meant to thank you for my Halloween card too, so thank you and forgive my lateness. Life is reeling and busy! You know all about it. :)
Love that lace and linen booth. xoxo

Loving the treasures of the brocante. I am just starting to want some mercury glass candle sticks, beautiful. I like the morose figure with the candles too. And the madonna crown, is it part of your collection now?
Oh I could just picture you taking pictures at the brocante and soaking in the day.
Take care,
Marilyn
