...there's a way!
Happily, I managed to find space for the huge 19th-century French mercantile cabinet delivered Tuesday. While not the ideal location for the cabinet, it will work until we move again. The bookcase that previously separated my "office" space from the salon/living room has been moved to a bedroom. Ah, the challenges of limited space!

Congrats, it's looking beautiful there :-)

Superbe!
I have a similar arrangement, work and living space divided by a similar piece of furniture except that it's called a Nantucket console.

MA, you're right. The red desk and bookcase came from Santa Fe!

That's indeed a good arrangement!
I look at your desk and worry how you manage to work there. I tend to migrate to our large dining table during the weeks when no one is here during the day: It gives me so much for space to spread my .... stuff.

That opens up your desk to allow more natural light, I love it!
Small space decorating is far more interesting than large. Small spaces are the BEST.
I love it and think it looks great!

Miss you and love you!!!

The room looks beautiful and very classy. I could probably spend an hour there just looking at the treasures and how nicely you have them displayed.

Ah, Tara, you are my idol in more ways than one... A master of words and decor, you are truly a force to be reckoned with! The cabinet is superb and looks grand right where it is. The only suggestion I have is there should be a book of your photography sitting atop the cabinet....just a thought VBG

What a terrific piece - great solution! I am having some "editing" problems at my house. I spent yesterday trying to figure out what to do with too much furniture and 30 years worth of books. How did the house where we reared three children become too small for two adults? I'm not moving for at least a few years, so something has to go!
I've been enjoying your blog for a long time. Thanks for the lovely photos, slices of life, and thought-provoking commentaries.

holy cow. you really do need to move to somewhere with about 25 rooms now!
glad you found a space for it and hopefully you didn't get into too much trouble with your man :)
