A painter creates reproductions of famous artists' work, while sitting on the sidewalk at London's South Bank.
His tools include paint, brushes and protective kneepads.
Since he's clearly talented, I'm not sure why he spends his time recreating the work of others, rather than producing his own.

Quite wonderful work. It is marvelous publicity as well.
Many schools of art teach painting reproductions as a good discipline for learning. This artist is very skilled and looks like he is enjoying what he does--and what he does, he does well!
I would love to see if his original work and if he paints in a relaistic style.

he is very good and talented. maybe he choses this kind of works to show his talent and mastery in techniques or maybe he is skillful but somehow scared to anchor his brush to a braver direction. an artist who is not scared to hold his brush and pours out the images in his head is brave because this moment of translating is the most difficult part in any artistic process.
nevertheless, i admire his talent :) so detailed works!

Obviously an artistic individual, perhaps he, like many, has no confidence in his own talents. Whatever his path, I hope he continues to share his artwork. It must be amazing to be able to create something that beautiful.

I guess he found out that people are more willing to give him a coin or two if he paints what they know. Who knows, he may just go home and work on his very own creations with the money he earns on the street.

Thanks very much indeed, Tara. When I was a young writer facing the dreaded blank sheet of paper in my typewriter (it was a long time ago) I would type out Hemingway short stories until my own story spoke to me. Perhaps this fellow is waiting for his own painting to present itself; I would love to see his work when that happens.

Charles, he's painting on canvas. (And I will get you that photo soon).

I can't tell from your photos; is he painting directly onto the sidewalk surface?
