Luckily, there was no storm and the Port of Calais, France was strike-free, when we crossed the English Channel a couple of weeks ago. It was my first time crossing the English Channel by boat since 1979, when I took the "boat train" from London to Paris.
Vehicles lining up for the next ferry, as viewed from a boat.
A glimpse of landmarks in Calais.
Ferry boats steaming into the harbour.
The famous White Cliffs of Dover, England. The cliffs inspired a song popular during World War II.
The Port of Dover, with Dover Castle high on a hill.
All photos taken with the little Sony Nex-5, which is great to carry in a handbag or pocket for unexpected photo opportunities.

Lovely, atmospheric photos. I'm a big fan of the Eurostar for the London-Paris trip, but I have to say there's romance in doing it by boat.

Loved seeing your ferry ride. Sometimes traveling like this can be so special. It reminds me of several ferry rides we have taken this year in the Puget Sound and over to Victoria, BC. It just feels like slowing down for awhile and enjoying the ride. Thanks for sharing your special trip.

My late mother adored that song...it is nice seeing the actual cliffs. Thanks for taking and showing the photos!
