Not every adorable child likes to have their picture taken. This little girl in Bungamati, Nepal was dressed for a religious ceremony. Bits of dried rice were in her hair, along with a red powdery paste.
This little boy acted as though he'd never seen a camera. His expression didn't waver, even when I showed him his picture. Maybe he'll be pleased when copies of the photos arrive via post.
Children in Panuti, Nepal volunteered to pose for the camera.
This child in Bungamati was standing on a shrine and not interested in meeting me.
And the girl in pink wasn't too happy either, although her mother was very kind.

They do look skeptical of this strange woman. Precious children.

What beautiful children! I remember the differing reactions my sons had to the camera as little guys, so this is really familiar. Ditto Gillian's comment about 'beige' ... The architecture, compared to the photos you post, is much less 'lyrical' ...

There are a lot of children who are very camera shy, or else they are little hams!!

Kids are funny creatures! Skeptics!! Ha ha.
Great colours in Nepal...things seem so beige over here by comparison. xo

My neighbors adopted a little girl from Nepal a few months ago. It involved over two years, tons of paperwork, two visits to Nepal and a lot of stress for her adoptive parents. Our State Department put a temporary stop on foreign adoptions for a bit. She came here very serious and timid. Now the little cutie pie is chattering (in English) like a magpie, smiling all of the time, learned to ride a tricycle and is the apple of her parents, brother (and neighbors') eyes.
