Peacock in a garden at Reales Alcázares de Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain.
Over the years, I have spent thousands of dollars/euros/pounds buying books, CDs, DVDs and a Kindle via Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. So when I awoke this morning to find a friend's email linking this article, I was shocked and appalled.
There simply is no excuse for such ill treatment of Amazon employees, whether temporary or permanent staff members. At the very least, such repeated health and safety violations should be cause for a full investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
In recent years, Amazon has made some dubious moves. Apparently the company considers itself rich enough and powerful enough to operate by different rules than other companies. Until Amazon.com improves working conditions for its employees and makes recompense to the workers affected at its warehouse(s), I will not make another purchase from the online retailer.

What a thoroughly rotten bunch - they do not deserve to be dignified with the title of booksellers.

Oh I am sad to hear this as I buy many books from them also. Ok, I will be buying them elsewhere now. Thanks! As always I learn so much from you.

Very, very disheartening...and very typical of work environments now here in the USA.
The summer weather was hellish on the East Coast and there are plenty of horror stories to go around. It must have been horrible in that warehouse. Apparently, the bottom line is... as always.... the bottom line.
Sad commentary.
