In Bhaktapur, Nepal I met a grandmother and her granddaughter, who were sitting next to construction materials at a building site. They kindly posed for the camera. Click photos to view detail.
The little girl - probably around 18 months old - has kohl smudged around her eyes, a tradition believed to help ward off evil spirits.
This elegant grandmother wears striking gold earrings. I wish I'd had an interpreter to be able to talk with her. Maybe on the next trip!

Their faces speak volumes. An interpreter can help with the words, but I think the feelings stand on their own.
