Filtered sunlight in a private chapel in a 15th-century church, the Netherlands.
Today people in the Netherlands pause to remember those who died in World War II and wars and/or peacekeeping missions thereafter. In our town, just before 8 p.m. about 100 people - led by a man beating a bass drum - walked towards a WWII memorial. They were carrying flowers to honour the fallen.
On Thursday, May 5th, the Dutch celebrate Liberation Day, the anniversary of the 1945 surrender of German forces.

A beautiful place to meditate and think on these things.
Hope you are well Tara!!

Wow, I never heard of this holiday. How very beautiful. The last soldier from WWI died today, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Choules) so it is a day of rememberance in many ways.

I love the simplicity of this chapel, the sunlight and the flowers. In smaller places like this it seems people have a stronger connection to history and tradition (liberation day, Queen's day)? It's fascinating to see all this through the lens of your camera.

I occasionally think that every single person on this planet should be forced to go stand in a military cemetery before they're allowed to elect an official of government. It is sobering in the extreme to be in the middle of that sea of death stones.

This is lovely. I often think that Holland was really pummeled in the war. I love the idea of a remembrance day.
