All my life I've been fascinated by owls. So it was an unexpected treat this week to encounter an European Eagle Owl at the South Devon Railway, Buckfastleigh, England.
As ever, click photos to view detail.
This owl was born and bred in captivity. Native European Eagle Owls apparently haven't been seen in Great Britain since the 19th-century. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of the organisation in Devon that looks after these rare birds.
Back soon with more photos.
I found a couple of places it could have been, http://www.devonbirdofprey.co.uk/ or http://www.exmoorfalconry.co.uk/ Either way, obviously Muggle fronts for Wizarding Centres.

How cool! Were they at the train station doing outreach, or something? I would totally love to have the chance to touch an owl.........
Thanks for sharing it with us.

I'm convinced this owl is on his way to Hogwarts.

It's hard to describe what I mean but in that last one, the owl looks so real that he doesn't look real. His eyes are amazing! Those are stunning birds -- I'm so glad you had the opportunity to be this close to one.

He is stunning--and he's got his eye trained on you and your camera. I'm not familiar with this owl--but I too love owls and have one on my fall mantel at the moment. I was fortunate once to get a close up of a beautiful Great Horned Owl in a tree as I was standing under him. Those eyes...

Your photos are amazing. Love the little girl in the last one. Between her sartorial choices and the owl's feather pattern, there's a whole lot of energy going on there. Delightful.
